El espectro creativo: la creatividad como virtud

Abstract

This essay proposes a definition of «creativity» that allows it to be understood as an Aristotelian virtue and, therefore, as the midpoint between two vices: one characterized by not finishing projects undertaken; the other, by not considering projects finished when, after a predetermined timeframe, they prove fruitless. The «blank page» metaphor represents a psychological tension or indeterminacy concerning the teleology of the human person; a tension or indeterminacy that manifests itself as a blank page (literally) in the case of writers. Likewise, the so-called «sunk cost fallacy» is formulated and subsequently postulated as the central argument of the positive, vicious extreme of the «creative spectrum». With an emphasis on the links between logic and rhetoric, and on the massive dimensions that the art of persuasion acquires in the cultural industries, it is argued, in short, that the sunk cost fallacy is, so to speak, the discreet enemy of creativity.
