Deteriorating air quality in the city of Guatemala, one environmental aspect restrict the Sustainable Development

The laboratory of Air Monitoring of the Univervisity of San Carlos de Guatemala, has made from year 1994 the monitoring of the polluting agents; toatl particles in suspension -PTS and PM 10-. Nitrogen Dioxide, sulfur dioxide and acid rain, in different points located in Guatemala city. The results confirm that the air quality is deteriorated and is caused by all the analized air pollutants. The significant prevalence of respiratory diseases can be relationated with the air  quality, probably is the main cause of visit to the system of public health of country, does that a considerable one amount of resources public is destined to the tratment of ill people, debilitating their use projects and policies of sustainable development of benefit at local and regional level.
