Macroeconomía y suicidio en México y América Central

Resumen

Este trabajo persigue identificar las variables macroeconómicas que determinan las tasas de suicidio femenino y masculino en México, República Dominicana, El Salvador, Guatemala y Costa Rica, usando datos del período 2000-2018. Los resultados muestran que la macroeconomía ejerce efectos importantes en el suicidio, especialmente originados en el mercado laboral: el desempleo, el subempleo crecen, mientras que el empleo asalariado y el sector servicios decrece. Además, las variables asociadas con exclusión social, tal como los homicidios y la brecha de pobreza aumentan. Mientras tanto, las remesas se reducen y la desindustrialización aumenta. Ambos temas inciden en el suicidio. También la política monetaria e incremento de las tasas de interés inciden en el suicidio.
