Abstract

The second issue of Senderos. Revista de Etnomusicología expands its scope with research that transcends Guatemala's borders and introduces new documentary sections. It features an international focus; Marina Alonso Bolaños analyzes the music of Guatemalan refugees in Mexico during the 1970s and 80s, while T. M. Scruggs traces the cultural evolution of the Marimba Dance from Monimbó to Managua, Nicaragua. Also included are transcriptions and colonial history, featuring Lacandon songs from Chiapas recorded by Didier Boremanse in the 1970s. Additionally, Paulo Alvarado examines 18th-century Christmas carols from Quiché, and Matthias Stöckli explains the transformation of pre-Columbian trumpets in Guatemala. In the "Archives" section, this rubric is launched with documents on K'iche' and Ixil musical practices (1966-1972) compiled by José Díaz Ruiz, presented by Alfonso Arrivillaga Cortés.
